Personal History

This is blog number 5, and we have to do a personal history about us and our ancestors. Well, I was born here in America and my parents were born in Mexico. They wanted to come here because over here in America, there was freeedom and, the life over here seemed pretty easy and you could get money fast so, they decide to come here in America. They came over here when they were about around twenty years old both of them.

First, I'll start with my grandparents on my mother's side. They are currently in Mexico enjoying the beach and soaking up the nice sun. Their nationality is Mexican. They speak Spanish and are currently trying to learn English and are planning to get a visa to come and visit like they used to a long time ago when I was at least six years old. They speak Spanish and that's it I guess.

My grandmother on my fathers side was with me since I was born until I was like eight or nine years old. I was sad at first because she was like a second mother to me because my real mom was always working until at least six or seven o'clock in the night. So, as I was saying, I was sad at first, but as I got older, I learned how to call her from my house to hers over there in Mexico, and now I talk to her like every three to four weeks. My grandmother speaks Spanish, and understands English a little but, can't speak it well.

Our religion has been being a Catholic for as long as I know of. Most of my family is catholic. My grandparents are catholic also and you guessed it, my great grandparents and other ancestors also are catholic. So, from generation to generation, me and my ancestors have been catholic for as long as I know. My religion, from what I think, is alright. I mean, I don't mean to offend people that are catholic and all, but sometimes we just have too much fun and have so much to so for being a complete catholic.

For instance, if your catholic, you HAVE TO get baptised, and HAVE TO do your communion and confirmation and all that other stuff. I mean, what's the point? You're going to end up where your going, depending on your actions and all you know so sometimes we, catholics just over do the parties and all of the money goes wasted.

One thing I do like about being Mexican is that we have some holidays that I like to celebrate. For instance, we celebrate May 5. I like this holiday because we have to first out of all things have to prepare some kind of Mexican dish. Then, after that, we have a party or some of us Mexicans go to the parade and watch the Mexican heritage come to the New York streets like gold spilling down the streets of New York.

My people came to America since like close to about two decades ago .My father, mother, and most of my uncles came to America around that time. They came to America because they had high hopes for this country. They believed in freedom, and freedom was often found here, so they thought why not come here? So they came. But being here was harder than they thought. They had to learn the English language, had to work for a living and, also had to raise a huge family. They also came here to have a better life for us, children, to work hard in school, get a good education, and have a better life in here then they did back in their own country.

The economy of my country and the U.S.A. is that in the U.S.A. they are first place and Mexico is thirteenth place. They are not so bad as I thought. They have a pretty good amount of money from all over the world. Mexico's economy is about 1,149,000,000,000 dollars and The United States economy is 13,130,000,000,000 dollars so we have about half the money as Canada.

I ended up here in New York,in Woodside,by moving from place to place. My parents were first were in California and slowly, they started moving all over the country to get to here,New York. When I was born, they lived in a little apartment, but moved to a basement so they could have children and raise a family in a house. Then, from there we moved to northern boulevard, and 74 through 79th street and went to live in a house.

We had the most beautiful house. It was two stories high and it had two bathrooms, around like three or four rooms and had a huge living room, where we had a huge t.v. and a big table where we all sat and ate like a real family should. Then, we moved here in Woodside, where I live and I've been living around here for like three years now. My parents are thinking of moving again but I'm happy here living where I am.

Well, we speak Spanish because we are Latinos and are proud of that! Well, it all started with Spain and the war between Mexico and Spain. They tried to take over the whole South America. So,I did a little research and I found out some good information. Oh, by the way, most of Mexico is catholic because when Spain tried to take over, their religion and all of the things they did were that it had to be their way and their religion and just basically everything had to be their own way and no one else's.

The whole war started with Spain and it's actions. An early explorer named Fernando Cortes, came to Mexico in search for gold. Mexico was under Spanish rule for around three centuries. Then, they got into a fight that got bigger and bigger. Spain got into Mexico and started killing people for land and power. At first, Mexico was scared but they got their act together and they decided to attack back. In the end, Mexico got it's independence on May 5 in the year of1994 and up until now, they are happy that they won and are living a good life and not being slaves under Spanish rulers.

I guess that is how we Spanish people or in my case, us Mexican people got to speak the way we do. If we didn't win the war, Mexico will still be under control of Spain, and that would be a bad thing. We speak Spanish because if we didn't win, we would be talking Aztec right now and us Mexicans still would be under Spanish rule, and that wouldn't be a good thing for all for us Mexicans.

That is the end of my personal history report and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Thank you for reading it!!=]
